About torque conversions

Torque specs for bolts and engines. Pound-force is defined from the exact pound and standard gravity, so lbf·ft = 1.355817948 … N·m.

Frequently asked questions

Which torque units can I convert?

newton metres (N·m), kilonewton metres (kN·m), pound-force feet (lbf·ft), pound-force inches (lbf·in), kilogram-force metres (kgf·m), ounce-force inches (ozf·in).

How accurate are the results?

Every unit is stored with its exact defining factor (NIST SP 811, NIST Handbook 44 or the BIPM SI Brochure). Calculations use double-precision arithmetic and are rounded only for display, to 5 significant figures by default (trailing zeros dropped, so 1 km shows as 1000 m). You can choose Auto (up to 10 digits), fixed decimals or more significant figures, or switch to scientific or engineering notation.

Are N·m of torque and joules the same?

They have the same SI dimensions (kg·m²/s²) but describe different things: torque is a turning moment and energy is work done. Unitglide keeps them in separate categories so you never mix them by accident.
